How to Find and Enter the Deeper Dark

Locating the Ancient City Portal

The Deeper Dark can only be accessed through an Ancient City. If you haven't found one yet, you'll need to explore the deep underground biomes, typically found below Y-level 0. Listen for the distinctive ambient sounds and look for sculk blocks, which indicate you're close.

Entering the Dimension

Once you've located an Ancient City, navigate to its center where you'll find the portal structure. Before approaching it:

1. Obtain an Echo Shard (found in Ancient City loot chests or dropped by the Warden)

2. Hold the Echo Shard in your hand

3. Walk toward the portal while holding it

The portal will activate and transport you to the Deeper Dark. Be prepared—you'll arrive in a sculk-covered landscape with limited visibility and potential danger from the Warden. Consider bringing armor, weapons, and tools before entering. The Deeper Dark is a one-way trip until you locate another Ancient City within the dimension to exit through.
