Iron Tanks FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
How do I start with Iron Tanks Mod?
Craft an
Iron Tank using iron ingots and wood planks as your first tank—it holds more liquid than a BuildCraft tank and serves as a foundation for larger storage systems. Once you have one, you can connect it to pipes from BuildCraft or tubes from ThermalDynamics to move liquids in and out.

Each tier (Iron, Gold, Diamond, etc.) holds progressively more liquid, so choose based on how much storage you need for your system. Higher tiers also tend to have better compatibility with faster-flowing liquids from advanced mods.
Can I make a
Copper Tank if I don't have copper ore?
Yes—if no mod in your pack adds copper ore to the Forge ore dictionary, you can craft a
Copper Tank using alternative recipes that substitute common materials. Check the mod's crafting recipes to see what's available in your specific modpack.

Make sure your pipes or tubes are actually connected to the tank's sides (not just placed nearby), and check that the tank isn't already full. If using BuildCraft pipes, ensure you're using the correct pipe type for the liquid you're moving.
Can I use Iron Tanks with ThermalDynamics?
Yes, Iron Tanks are fully compatible with ThermalDynamics tubes and machines, and ThermalDynamics is one of the mods that adds copper and silver ore to the Forge ore dictionary. You can freely mix tanks and ducts in the same system.
Do tanks lose their liquid if I break them?
No—when you break a tank, it drops as an item and retains all the liquid inside it, so you can safely move or relocate your storage without losing anything.
How do I set up multiple tanks to work together?
Connect multiple tanks with BuildCraft pipes or ThermalDynamics tubes on their sides; liquids will flow between them automatically as long as the pipes are connected and there's space in the receiving tank. You can also use a central pipe hub to distribute liquids to several tanks at once.
Can I automate filling and emptying tanks?
Yes—use pumps from BuildCraft or fluid extractors from other mods connected to your tank's sides via pipes or tubes to automatically move liquids in and out based on your system's needs.
What mods add the ores I need for higher-tier tanks?
Industrial Craft, Forestry, and ThermalDynamics all add copper ore; ThermalDynamics also adds silver ore. If your modpack includes any of these, you'll be able to craft Copper and Silver Tanks.
Do Iron Tanks work with mod machines that need liquids?
Yes—any machine that accepts liquids from pipes or tubes (like furnaces or reactors from other mods) will work with Iron Tanks as long as you connect them with compatible piping.
