Why the Cost Matters
By default the Improved Grindstone can charge XP for transfers, mirror the vanilla grindstone's cost behavior, or charge nothing at all. If you are playing in creative, testing builds, or running a server with its own economy, you will want to pick the mode that fits.
Changing the Setting
Open the mod's config screen. If Cloth Config is installed, you can reach it from the mod list menu; otherwise edit the config file directly. Look for the experience cost option and choose between the available modes:
- No cost — transfers are free.
- Specific cost — a fixed XP amount is charged per operation.
- Vanilla cost — the cost scales the way the vanilla grindstone does.
Save the config and return to the game. If you changed a server-side config, restart the server so all players pick up the new value.
Interaction with Tax Free Levels
If Tax Free Levels is installed, XP handling for these operations is routed through that mod, which can change how levels are deducted. Test a single transfer after changing settings to confirm the cost behaves the way you expect before doing bulk work.
