Why a Mod's Config Options Are Missing or Greyed Out

Understanding what this library actually does

Forge Config API Port only provides the plumbing. It does not add buttons, sliders, or categories to any menu by itself. If a mod's settings are missing from a config screen, the cause is almost always the mod that owns those settings, not this library.

Common reasons options do not appear:

  • The mod has no config screen at all and expects you to edit files by hand.
  • The option is defined but only takes effect after a restart, so the screen hides or disables it.
  • The mod failed to load its config because the file was corrupted, hand-edited incorrectly, or written by a different version.
  • Another mod is overriding the same setting.

What to check

First, confirm the mod in question actually declares config options. Check its own documentation or the comments inside its config file. If the file exists but the screen is empty, the file may be malformed.

Second, look at your game log for config-related warnings during startup. A parse error will usually be reported there with the file path.

Third, if you edited the file manually, revert to a backup or delete it so the mod can regenerate a clean default. Restart the game and see whether the options return. If they still do not, the limitation is in that mod, and the fix is on its side.
