How to Override or Disable a Default Fishing Real Conversion

How Overrides Work

The mod ships with a set of default conversions, but they are not hardcoded — they live in the same datapack format you use. When two datapacks define the same input item, the higher-priority pack wins. Your world datapack sits above the mod's built-in data, so anything you write replaces the default for that item.

Overriding a Conversion

1. Find the item you want to change — for example, the vanilla salmon item that normally becomes a live salmon.

2. Create a JSON file in data/<your_namespace>/fishing/.

3. Set input.item to that same item ID.

4. Set result to whatever entity you actually want, with optional nbt.

5. Run /reload.

Now reeling in that item spawns your entity instead of the default one. You can point it at a completely different mob, or at the same mob with different NBT.

Disabling a Conversion Entirely

If you want an item to stay an item and never become an entity, override its input with a result that points back to an item-like entity is not the goal — instead, the cleanest approach is to remove the mapping so the mod has nothing to convert. Since the mod only converts items that have a matching JSON, deleting or not providing a file for that item leaves the vanilla drop untouched. Confirm by fishing and checking that you receive the plain item.

Verifying

After reloading, fish repeatedly. If the old entity still appears, another datapack with higher priority is likely overriding you — check load order.
