Extra Rails Mod FAQ
20 questions players actually ask, answered.
How do I get started with Extra Rails?
Craft the mod's rail variants the same way you'd craft ordinary rails, then place them on the ground like vanilla rails. Start with a short test track so you can see how each new rail type behaves before wiring it into a big build.
What's the difference between the different rail types in this mod?
Each rail adds one behavior on top of normal rails: vertical rails move carts up and down, detector rails emit a redstone signal when a cart passes, crossing rails let two tracks intersect, and powered rails accelerate carts. Check the tooltip or the mod's rail list to see which one does what.
Why won't my cart go up my vertical rail?
Vertical rails need a redstone signal or a powered boost to lift a cart, and the cart has to be aligned with the rail's base before it starts climbing. Make sure the rail column is unbroken and that nothing is blocking the cart at the top.
How do I make a detector rail trigger something?
Place the detector rail in your track and run redstone dust or a wire from it to whatever you want to activate, such as a door, lamp, or dispenser. The signal fires while a cart is on the rail, so timing-sensitive builds may need a repeater to hold the pulse.
My crossing rails aren't letting carts switch tracks. What am I doing wrong?
Crossing rails only work when both tracks meet at the same block and the rails are oriented correctly. If a cart keeps going straight instead of turning, rotate the crossing rail or check that the incoming track lines up with the correct exit.
How do I link two carts into a train?
Place the carts next to each other on the same track and use the mod's linking item or interaction on the adjacent carts. Once linked, they'll move together as one train instead of drifting apart.
Can I use Extra Rails with other rail or transport mods?
Extra Rails generally coexists with other mods, but overlapping rail types or custom cart entities can cause conflicts. If something breaks, test the mod alone first, then add other mods back one at a time to find the culprit.
Will Extra Rails cause lag on my server?
The rails themselves are lightweight, but long chains of powered or detector rails with redstone wiring can add up. Keep redstone runs short and avoid leaving many carts loaded in one area if you notice tick lag.
Why does my elevator stop halfway up?
A vertical rail column needs an uninterrupted line of rails and a consistent power source along its length. Gaps, unpowered sections, or a cart that's too heavy for the boost will stall the climb.
Do Extra Rails work in existing worlds?
Yes, you can add the mod to an existing world and start placing rails right away. Just be aware that any chunks you've already generated won't contain mod blocks until you build them yourself.
What does the Extra Rails Mod do?
It adds specialized rail types to Minecraft to give you more control over minecart tracks. These rails can stop carts, change their direction, boost them one way, or teleport them across the map.
What rails does the Extra Rails Mod add?
It adds the
Locking Rail,
Direction Rail,
Teleporting Rail,
Comparator Rail, and
Wooden Rail. Each one has a different effect on minecarts that pass over it.

The
Locking Rail holds a minecart in place until it receives a redstone signal. When powered, it pushes the cart in the direction the rail is facing.

It works like a powered rail, but it only pushes minecarts in one specific direction. This lets you make one-way tracks.
How do I link two Teleporting Rails?
Place a
Teleporting Rail at each end, right-click the first one to open its menu, and pick a color frequency. Then set the second rail to the exact same color frequency.
Teleporting Rail at each end, right-click the first one to open its menu, and pick a color frequency. Then set the second rail to the exact same color frequency. What happens if I link more than two Teleporting Rails to the same frequency?
If more than two rails share the same frequency, the destination a minecart arrives at can become random. It is safest to link only two rails per frequency.
How does the Comparator Rail work?
If a minecart with an inventory, such as a chest minecart, is sitting on this rail, it outputs a redstone signal based on how full that inventory is.
What does the Wooden Rail do?
The
Wooden Rail looks like a normal track but is made of wood. It slows minecarts down to half their normal speed.

Yes, the config file has options like enableTeleportingRail and enableWoodenRail. Both are set to true by default, so you can turn them off if you do not want those rails.
What is the Extra Rails Mod?
