Epitaphs FAQ

10 questions players actually ask, answered.

How do I use Epitaphs Mod?
Just play normally—when you die, a grave spawns at your death location and you'll see chat coordinates. Walk back to those coordinates and right-click the grave to retrieve all your items in their original inventory slots.
Can other players open my grave?
No, graves are locked to the player who died. Only you can open your own grave; other players cannot steal your items from it.
What does soulbound do?
Soulbound is an enchantment you create by combining a bottle with gear in an anvil. Items with Soulbound stay in your inventory when you die instead of going into the grave.
How do I teleport back to my death spot?
Right-click a grave with an empty bottle to get a Soul in a Bottle, then drink it to teleport directly to that death location.
What if I can't find my grave?
Type /epitaphs highlight latest in chat and your newest grave will glow with an outline so you can see it through blocks.
How do I see all my graves?
Use the command /epitaphs list to view all your current grave locations.
Does soulbound work on armor?
Yes, and you can add an experience bottle to Soulbound armor in an anvil to get Experience Soulbound, which saves a portion of your XP when you die.
What happens if my grave is in the void or floating?
The mod tries to place graves on solid ground automatically, so they shouldn't float or fall into the void under normal circumstances.
Can admins recover lost items?
Yes, server admins can use /epitaphs recover player to restore a player's items if something goes wrong, or /epitaphs save to manually back up player data.
Does Epitaphs work with land claims or spawn protection?
Yes, the mod bypasses claimed land and spawn protections so your grave will always appear where you died, even in protected areas.
