Envelope FAQ

10 questions players actually ask, answered.

How do I get started with Envelope Mod?
Place a Mailbox anywhere in your world, then spend 3 experience levels to give it an address—this connects it to the mail network. You'll also need to find or breed some pigeons to actually deliver your mail; they spawn naturally in mountain areas and near villages, or you can lead them with seeds.
Where do I find pigeons?
Pigeons spawn naturally in mountain biomes and around villages. If you're having trouble finding them, hold seeds in your hand and they'll follow you, making it easier to bring them back to your base.
How do I send mail to another player?
Write a letter or pack items into a package, then use an Address Tag to select the recipient's mailbox. Place your mail and some seeds into your mailbox, and a pigeon will pick it up and fly to their mailbox.
What do I need to put in my mailbox for mail to be delivered?
You need to place both your mail (letter or package) and seeds inside the mailbox. The seeds are what attract a pigeon to pick up and deliver your mail.
Can I trade items safely with other players using this mod?
Yes—attach a Payback Tag to your package to request specific items in return. Your items stay protected until the buyer pays the requested price, and the package automatically returns to you if they don't pay in time.
How do I protect my mail from being opened by others?
Seal your letters and packages so nobody else can change what's inside. Use the sealing feature when creating your mail to keep the contents private.
What happens if a pigeon gets attacked while delivering mail?
Wild cats, ocelots, and foxes will hunt pigeons, so you should keep your birds safe by protecting them or managing predators near your mailboxes. Pigeons fly high above the clouds during delivery, which helps them avoid most threats.
Do I need a mailbox at both ends to send and receive mail?
Yes—both the sender and recipient need mailboxes with addresses on the mail network. The recipient's mailbox is where the pigeon will deliver the mail.
What's the difference between letters and packages?
Letters are for quick messages and use fewer resources, while packages let you pack up items and save inventory space. Both can be sealed and sent through the postal system.
Can I set up a pigeonhole to store items from pigeons?
Yes—place a Pigeonhole and pigeons will rest there and leave behind useful items. This gives you another way to collect resources from your birds beyond just mail delivery.
