Making Mob Sounds Less Repetitive in Your World

Why Repetition Happens

Vanilla assigns one sound per action per entity, so a zombie's groan or a cow's moo plays identically every time. Entity Sound Features exists specifically to break that loop by letting a single action map to several clips.

Setting Up Variation

1. Decide which entities bother you most — usually passive mobs you hear constantly (cows, sheep, chickens) or hostile mobs during long fights.

2. For each one, gather two or more short sound clips that fit the mob's character. They should be similar in volume and length so switching is not jarring.

3. Register those clips as the candidates for that entity's ambient or idle sound using the mod's property rules.

4. Apply the same approach to hurt and death sounds if you want combat to feel less canned.

5. Reload and walk through a farm or cave to judge the result.

Balancing the Mix

Do not add too many wildly different clips — variation should feel natural, not random. Match pitch and tone across your candidates, and keep file sizes reasonable so resource loading stays fast.
