How do I craft an Ender Compass?

What do I do after I craft the Ender Compass?
Right-click the Ender Compass in your inventory to search for the nearest stronghold. The compass pointer will then rotate to point in the direction of that stronghold, and you can follow it to navigate there.
Does the compass pointer keep updating as I move?
