Dinnerware FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
How do I make my first plate?
Craft a plate using one of the 54 available materials (wood, quartz, diamond, etc.) in the crafting table—each material has its own recipe. Once crafted, place the plate on a block and right-click it to start adding food.
Can I put multiple different foods on one plate?
Yes, plates have multiple sections that can each hold different food items. You can mix and match foods on the same plate, and the food will visually arrange itself as you add more items.
What happens if I break a plate with food on it?
If you break a plate normally (left-click), all the food drops on the ground. To pick up a full plate with all its food intact, you must crouch and break it instead.
How much food can fit on a single plate?
A plate can hold up to 48 food items total, distributed across its different sections.
Can I eat directly from a plate or do I need to pick it up?
You can eat directly from a plate by right-clicking it when your hunger bar isn't full, without needing to pick it up or hold the food in your hand.
Do plates work with my resource pack?
Yes, plates automatically match your current resource pack, so they'll always look consistent with your world's visual style.
Can I put non-food items on plates?
By default, only food items can be placed on plates, but you can enable the `allow_any_item` config option to place blocks and other items instead.
What happens if a plate gets blown up by an explosion?
The plate breaks and all food drops on the ground, just like breaking it normally.
Can I eat from a plate when my hunger bar is already full?
By default, no—but you can enable the `eat_when_full` config option to allow eating from plates even at full hunger.
Do plates break if I walk or jump on them?
Only if you enable the `fragile_plates` config option; otherwise, plates are durable and won't break from player movement.
