Writing quotes that fit

Open config/deathquotes.txt and add a new line for each quote. The mod does not require placeholders — it just prints the line as-is above the vanilla death message. That means you can write anything: jokes, movie references, inside jokes for your server, or dramatic one-liners. Keep them short so they read well in chat; very long lines wrap awkwardly.

Formatting tips

Avoid special characters that could confuse the parser, and stick to plain text. If you want the quote to feel personal, you can reference common death causes in the text itself ("lava again?"), since the mod does not substitute the cause automatically. Do not add numbering, bullets, or comment markers — every line is treated as a quote.

Sharing and reusing

Because the file is just text, you can copy it between worlds and servers, or download quote packs other players have posted and drop them in. To merge two packs, open both files and paste the lines together, removing duplicates if you want. Always keep a backup copy of your favorites before overwriting with someone else's pack.
