Use Follow-On Attributes to Create Stat Dependencies
What Are Follow-On Attributes?
Follow-on attributes automatically recalculate based on changes to other attributes. This creates dynamic stat relationships—for example, increasing strength might automatically boost damage output.
Setting Up Dependencies
In your attribute definition, specify which attributes it depends on and how. You can create formulas where:
- One attribute modifies another
- Multiple attributes combine to affect a third
- Changes cascade through related stats
This is particularly useful for RPG-style systems where core stats (strength, intelligence) feed into derived stats (damage, mana regeneration).
Testing Your System
Use commands to modify a base attribute and observe whether dependent attributes update correctly. Verify that the relationships work for both players and mobs.
Follow-on attributes reduce datapack complexity by automating stat calculations, making your systems easier to maintain and balance.
