Create a Custom Attribute for Your Datapack
Setting Up Your Attribute File
Custom attributes are defined in JSON files within your datapack. Create the file structure data/namespace/attributes/your_attribute.json in your datapack folder.
Defining the Attribute
Your attribute JSON should specify:
- A unique name (using namespace:name format)
- A default value
- Minimum and maximum bounds
- Whether it should sync to clients
- Translation keys for display names
For example, you might define a "magic resistance" attribute that ranges from 0 to 100, with a default of 0. This allows you to track custom stats beyond Minecraft's built-in attributes like health and armor.
Applying to Entities
Once defined, reference your attribute in entity type files or use commands to apply it to specific mobs or players. The attribute will then be modifiable through commands, loot tables, and other datapacks.
Always reload your datapack after making changes to ensure the mod recognizes your new attribute definitions.
