Culinary Hearthstone FAQ

10 questions players actually ask, answered.

How do I start cooking with this mod?
Craft a Stove and place it on the ground, then insert fuel into its bottom slot. Once lit, place a Pan, Pot, or Bamboo Steamer on top of the stove and add your ingredients to begin cooking.
What's the difference between a stove and an oven?
A Stove heats cookware placed on top of it (Pan, Pot, Bamboo Steamer) and requires fuel in its bottom slot. An Oven is a separate block with its own fuel slot and eight independent baking slots, letting you cook large batches without needing a stove underneath.
Can I cook multiple items at once?
Yes—Pans hold up to four items, Pots blend up to six ingredients into one meal, Bamboo Steamers cook four separate foods, and Ovens have eight slots for batch cooking. Each method serves different cooking styles.
Do I need to place cookware directly on a stove?
Pans, Pots, and Bamboo Steamers must sit directly on top of a lit Stove to receive heat. Ovens work independently and don't need a stove below them.
How do combined recipes work?
Combined recipes let you add multiple ingredients to a Pan or Pot together, and they cook into a single finished dish instead of individual items. Check your mod's datapack to see which ingredient combinations create new meals.
What are byproducts and when do they appear?
Byproducts are optional secondary items that can result from cooking on a Stove—they're determined by the recipe and datapack you're using. Not all recipes produce byproducts.
Does stack size affect cooking time in the oven?
Yes—the Oven adjusts bake times and XP drops based on how many items are in each slot, so cooking a full stack takes longer than cooking a single item.
What are Counters used for?
Counters are decorative tabletop blocks that help you organize and connect your kitchen stations visually. They don't have cooking functions but make your kitchen layout cleaner and more organized.
Can I add my own custom recipes to this mod?
Yes—the mod has full datapack compatibility, so you can create custom foods, adjust cooking times, and balance XP rewards by setting up datapacks in your world.
Why isn't my cookware heating up?
Make sure your Stove has fuel in its bottom slot and is actually lit, and that your Pan, Pot, or Bamboo Steamer is placed directly on top of the Stove block—cookware won't heat if it's beside the stove or on a Counter instead.
