Copper Hopper FAQ

10 questions players actually ask, answered.

How do I craft a Copper Hopper?
See the Crafting Recipes section on the main wiki page for the exact recipe. You'll need copper ingots and a regular hopper as the base components.
How do I set up filtering on a Copper Hopper?
Place an item directly into one of the hopper's slots—that item type becomes a filter. Only matching items will be pulled or pushed through the system. You can filter up to 5 different item types per hopper.
Why does my filter keep disappearing?
The hopper needs to keep at least one of each filtered item inside to maintain the filter. If the hopper empties completely, you'll need to place the item back in to reactivate filtering.
Can I filter tools and armor?
Yes, you can filter tools and armor, but you must leave at least one empty slot in the hopper for it to function properly. See the guide 'Use Copper Hoppers to Filter Tools and Armor' for details.
How do stacked Copper Hoppers work together?
When Copper Hoppers are stacked vertically, the lower hopper pulls matching items before the upper one pushes them out. This makes them ideal for building vertical item sorters—see the guide 'Build a Vertical Item Sorter with Stacked Copper Hoppers'.
What's the difference between a Copper Hopper and a regular hopper?
Copper Hoppers have built-in filtering so you can specify exactly which items are accepted, whereas regular hoppers pull everything. Copper Hoppers also prioritize lower units when stacked, making them better for sorting systems.
Do Copper Hoppers work with minecarts?
Yes, the mod includes minecart versions of Copper Hoppers for mobile filtering systems. See the guide 'Create a Mobile Sorting System with Minecart Copper Hoppers' for setup instructions.
Can I filter more than 5 item types in one hopper?
No, each Copper Hopper can only filter up to 5 item types. If you need to sort more items, use multiple hoppers or stack them in a sorting system.
Why isn't my filter working when I have no empty slots?
Copper Hoppers need at least one empty slot to function properly, especially when filtering tools or armor. Make sure you're not filling all 5 slots with filter items.
Do Copper Hoppers cause lag or performance issues?
Copper Hoppers are designed to be efficient, but like any sorting system, excessive stacking or very large filtering networks may impact performance depending on your setup and server load.
