How to Survive Death Without Holding a Totem

Why the Charm Slot Matters

By default, Minecraft only triggers a Totem of Undying if it is in your main hand or off hand when you take fatal damage. In practice, you often die before you can switch items. The Charm of Undying Mod solves this by letting the totem sit in a dedicated slot that is always active, so you do not need to react in time.

Steps to Stay Protected

1. Craft or obtain a Totem of Undying.

2. Open your inventory and place the totem into the charm slot to the left of your armor slots.

3. Keep the totem there at all times. Do not move it to your hotbar unless you want to use it manually for some reason.

4. Carry at least one spare totem in your inventory so you can refill the charm slot after it is consumed.

What Happens on Death

When you take fatal damage, the totem in the charm slot activates exactly like a held totem. You are revived with the usual effects, and the totem is consumed. Because the slot is separate from your hands, you can keep using your weapon, shield, or tools right up until the moment you would have died. This is especially useful in combat, during elytra flights, or in any situation where switching to a totem is not practical.
