Cc Optical FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
How do I get started with Cc Optical Mod?
Place an optical sensor or radar block next to a CC:Tweaked computer or wired modem, then use `peripheral.wrap()` in a Lua script to connect to it. Run `sensor.scan()` to start detecting targets and print their coordinates to your screen.
What's the difference between the four sensor types?
Optical Sensor scans 360 degrees up to 192 blocks,
Directional Optical Sensor fires a cone up to 512 blocks,
Long Range Optical Sensor reaches 900 blocks in a narrow cone, and Radar scans through walls in all directions and scales with booster blocks.

For optical sensors, narrow the field of view using `setFov()` to zoom in on distant targets. For radar, place
radar booster blocks nearby to extend detection range up to 900 blocks total.

Yes, use `setFilter()` with parameters like mob name, size class, or airship sublevel to narrow down what your sensor reports. Decorative items like item frames are automatically ignored.
How do I automate cannon aiming and firing?
Wrap the cannon mount as a peripheral, then use methods to set pitch and yaw angles from your sensor's target data, check if the cannon is loaded, and call the fire method. The mod handles rotation limits automatically unless free rotation is enabled.
What does cbcFreeRotationEnabled do?
When enabled, cannon mounts can rotate without their normal mechanical limits, letting you aim in any direction. You can also set a weight limit with cbcFreeRotationMaxWeight to prevent overloaded cannons from rotating freely.
Do sensors work through walls and solid blocks?
Optical sensors cannot see through walls, but the Radar block detects targets through solid blocks in all directions, making it ideal for hidden detection systems.
Can I use Cc Optical Mod with moving contraptions and airships?
Yes, the mod is designed to work with moving contraptions and airship systems, so you can build automated defense stations and smart turrets that track targets across long distances.
What happens if I try to fire a cannon that isn't loaded?
Use the cannon's `isLoaded()` method to check firing readiness before calling fire. Attempting to fire an unloaded cannon will fail silently, so always verify the cannon state in your script.
Why isn't my sensor detecting anything?
Make sure the sensor is placed next to a computer or wired modem, properly wrapped in your script, and that targets are within range and field of view. For optical sensors, check that your zoom level (`setFov()`) isn't too narrow, and verify the scan direction matches your sensor type.
