Boss Companions FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
How do I get my first boss companion?
Defeat any boss in the game—Wither, Ender Dragon, or Guardian—and it will drop a miniature version of itself that you can pick up. You'll need to tame it with a specific item before it becomes your loyal pet.
What item do I use to tame the wither pet?
Give the Witherite a Wither Rose to tame it and make it follow you around.
How do I tame the guardian companion?
The Guardian drops an egg instead of a pet; feed the egg Cod and it will hatch into the Guardian's Hatchling, which then becomes your companion.
Can I have multiple Boss Companions at once?
Yes, you can tame and carry multiple different boss companions simultaneously, and they'll all fight alongside you in combat.
What does the dragon hatchling do?
The Dragon Hatchling grants you infinite Elytra flying while it travels with you, letting you fly indefinitely without needing to repair or replace your wings.
Do my companions fight for me or just follow?
Your companions actively fight enemies alongside you; each one has unique combat abilities, like the Wardling hitting incredibly hard or the Witherite spawning extra helpers when it defeats enemies.
What happens if my companion dies in combat?
Companions can be defeated in battle, but you can resummon them by finding another boss drop or checking if they respawn after a certain time.
Does the mod work with other boss mods?
The mod is designed to eventually support boss pets from popular community packs, though compatibility depends on which specific mods you're using together.
How do I use the guardian hatchling's water abilities?
Simply swim while the Guardian's Hatchling is with you and you'll automatically gain Water Breathing and Dolphin's Grace buffs to move faster underwater.
What does the mini spud companion do?
The Mini Spud has a special reaction when you feed it a Poisonous Potato, though the exact effect depends on the mod's implementation.
