Making AutoSwitch Pick the Correct Tool for Every Block Type

AutoSwitch decides which tool to use based on the block you're targeting. If it's picking the wrong one, the fix is usually in how your tools are set up, not in the mod itself.

How the matching works

The mod checks the block's harvest requirements and looks for a tool that satisfies them. Among valid candidates it prefers the one that will break the block fastest — typically the highest-tier or most-enchanted option. If two tools tie, the one earlier in your hotbar usually wins.

Fixing wrong picks

  • Enchantments matter. A plain diamond pickaxe may lose to an enchanted iron one if the enchant gives a higher effective speed. If you want a specific tool used, give it the better enchant or exclude the competitor.
  • Wrong tool entirely? Check whether the block has an unusual harvest type (some modded blocks do). Add an explicit mapping in the config if the mod supports per-block overrides.
  • Nothing gets swapped? The mod couldn't find a valid tool. Confirm the tool is in the search scope you configured (hotbar vs. inventory) and isn't blacklisted.
  • Shears, hoes, and specialty tools — make sure they're not filtered out by a whitelist that only lists pickaxes, axes, and shovels.

After changing anything, break one of each block type you care about to confirm the picks are what you expect.
