Aftershock FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
How do I know if a graboid is under my base?
Graboids create vibrations in the ground that you can detect—watch for tremors and ground disturbances near your structures. If you hear the distinctive sounds or see sand/dirt being displaced, a Graboid is likely tunneling beneath you.
What's the best way to kill a dirt dragon early game?
Dirt Dragons are small and vulnerable compared to later lifecycle stages, so standard weapons work well; focus on hitting them before they burrow back underground or grow larger. Keeping them above ground and away from soft terrain gives you the best chance.
Can graboids destroy my house?
Yes—Graboids tunnel through dirt and sand blocks to hunt, and their tentacles can break through structures. Building on stone or using reinforced materials in vulnerable areas helps protect against tunneling damage.
How do shriekers reproduce so fast?
Shriekers are asexual and reproduce exponentially once they've eaten enough food, meaning a single Shrieker can quickly become a population problem. You need to cull them regularly or prevent them from feeding to avoid being overwhelmed.
What happens when a shrieker becomes a blaster?
A mature Shrieker transforms into a Blaster, which is a more dangerous lifecycle stage with different attack patterns and abilities. Blasters are significantly more threatening than Shriekers, so you should deal with Shriekers before they reach maturity.
Do graboids only spawn in deserts?
Graboids favor sandy and dirt-heavy biomes where they can tunnel easily, but they can appear in other terrain types—any area with soft ground is potentially vulnerable.
How do I prevent graboids from spawning near my base?
Lighting and keeping the area clear of the soft terrain Graboids prefer helps deter them, but the most reliable method is building on stone or other hard blocks that are difficult for them to tunnel through.
Can I trap or contain a graboid?
Graboids are powerful tunnelers, so standard containment is difficult; however, surrounding an area with hard blocks or creating barriers they cannot easily break through can slow or redirect them away from your base.
What should I do if a blaster appears?
Blasters are the most dangerous lifecycle stage and require serious preparation—refer to your base defenses and consider evacuating valuable items to safety, then engage with your best weapons and armor.
Do graboids attack at night only?
Graboids hunt based on vibrations and movement rather than time of day, so they can attack whenever you're active and creating ground disturbances, regardless of whether it's day or night.
