Set Up Your First Underground Base to Escape Radiation
Finding a Safe Depth
Radiation scales with altitude, making underground the only viable long-term shelter. Dig down to create your base—the deeper you go, the safer you are from surface radiation. Start by mining a small chamber at least several blocks below ground level to test your safety.
Building Your Shelter
1. Excavate a room large enough for crafting stations, storage, and sleeping areas
2. Ensure your base has multiple exits in case of emergencies
3. Stock it with food, tools, and spare filters before venturing to the surface
4. Keep a bed underground so you can respawn safely if radiation exposure becomes critical
5. Consider building airlocks or sealed entrances to minimize radiation seeping in from above
Testing Your Safety
Use your
Geiger counter to monitor background radiation levels in your base. If readings are still dangerous, dig deeper. Once you've found a safe zone, you can safely log off and store valuable items without fear of radiation damage while offline.
