Preparing for Surface Exploration

A gas mask is essential for any time spent above ground. Craft one using the mod's recipes, then equip it in your armor slots. The mask alone won't protect you indefinitely—you need clean filters to breathe safely.

Managing Your Filters

1. Craft replacement filters before heading to the surface

2. Keep multiple spare filters in your inventory at all times

3. Monitor your current filter's condition using your Geiger counter or inventory display

4. Swap out dirty filters for clean ones before they become completely saturated

5. Return underground immediately if you run out of clean filters

Maximizing Surface Time

Plan your surface expeditions carefully. Gather resources quickly, then retreat underground to safety. Don't linger on the surface longer than necessary, even with a mask—filters degrade over time. Always have an escape route back to your underground base mapped out before you venture up.
