Find and Identify Specific Stone Types in Your World
Understanding Stone Layer Distribution
World of Stone Mod organizes stone into realistic geological layers. As you dig deeper, you'll encounter different rock types in a predictable order. The mod's NOISE configuration (recommended) creates 3D layered strata, meaning stone types change both horizontally and vertically based on depth.
How to Locate Specific Stones
1. Dig a deep vertical shaft down through multiple layers and observe which stones appear at different depths
2. Note the biome — surface rocks in cold biomes will have moss or snow, affecting appearance
3. Look for ores — the mod recolors ores to match their host stone, so finding a familiar ore type helps identify the surrounding stone layer
4. Explore caves — natural caverns expose multiple layers at once, making it easier to see the full geological sequence
5. Use the Mason villager — they buy and sell the new stone blocks, so trading can help you identify which blocks are available in your current area
Tips
If you're using BLOB or CHUNK configuration instead of NOISE, stone distribution works differently — BLOB mimics vanilla ore veins, while CHUNK gives each chunk one dominant stone type. Adjust your search strategy accordingly.
