Grow Sugar Cane Without Adjacent Water
Planting on
Wet Sand
Wet blocks have special properties that allow sugar cane to grow without a water source directly beside it:
1. Create wet sand blocks by placing sand near water and waiting for it to soak
2. Plant sugar cane on top of the damp blocks
3. The sugar cane will grow normally without requiring a water block in an adjacent horizontal tile
Benefits for Farming
This mechanic is especially useful for compact farm designs. You can create taller, more space-efficient sugar cane farms by stacking wet sand vertically or arranging it in dense patterns. Since the water requirement is eliminated, you have more freedom in your layout and can build farms in areas where traditional water channels would be impractical.
Note that the sugar cane still needs the wet blocks to remain damp—if they dry out completely, growth may slow or stop.
