Understand Waxed vs. Unwaxed Coral Behavior
The Difference Explained
Unwaxed Coral:
- Remains healthy and colorful only when in water or waterlogged
- Dries out and turns into dead coral when exposed to air
- Dies instantly if removed from water and placed elsewhere
- Dead coral is gray and cannot be revived
Waxed Coral:
- Stays vibrant and colorful permanently, regardless of water
- Can be placed anywhere: air, land, or water
- Survives being moved, transported, and stored
- Maintains its original appearance forever
When to Wax
Wax coral if you plan to:
- Move it away from water
- Use it in decorative builds
- Store it long-term
- Display it outside an ocean biome
You don't *need* to wax coral if it stays in water, but waxing is cheap (just honeycomb) and guarantees your coral investment is protected.
