Getting the Best Performance Gains from the Vulkan Renderer

Understand Where the Gains Come From

This mod replaces Minecraft's OpenGL renderer with a custom voxel engine built on Vulkan. The performance uplift depends heavily on your GPU vendor and driver. AMD GPUs on Windows and Linux generally see the largest improvement because their OpenGL drivers are historically weaker than their Vulkan drivers. NVIDIA users often see a smaller but still measurable gain. Integrated GPUs and older cards may see little or no benefit.

Tune Your Setup for Maximum FPS

1. Make sure you are actually running the Vulkan path — check the log for a line confirming the Vulkan device was selected. If it fell back to OpenGL, you will see no gain.

2. Close overlays and capture tools (Discord, GeForce Experience, OBS game capture) that hook the render pipeline; they can negate Vulkan gains.

3. Reduce render distance and simulation distance first — these are the biggest FPS levers regardless of renderer.

4. Test with and without shaders. Shader packs are written for OpenGL and may not be compatible with this renderer, so disable them if you see artifacts or crashes.

5. Compare FPS at the same location and settings before and after enabling the mod, using F3 to read the frame counter.

If you see no improvement, your bottleneck is likely CPU-side (chunk loading, entities) rather than rendering, and the Vulkan renderer cannot help there.
