How to Leave Items in the Visual Workbench Without Losing Them
Why items stay put
Unlike a vanilla crafting table, the Visual Workbench keeps whatever you place in its crafting grid stored inside the block. Closing the interface does not clear the slots, so you can walk away mid-craft and come back later.
Steps to safely park items
1. Place the Visual Workbench block and right-click it to open the grid.
2. Drop the ingredients you want to keep handy into the crafting slots. You do not need a valid recipe — partial layouts are fine.
3. Close the interface with E or Esc. The items remain in the block, not in your inventory.
4. Look at the block from outside: the items you left are rendered on top of the workbench as a small 3D display, so you can identify what is stored at a glance.
5. To retrieve them, right-click the block again and pull the stacks back into your inventory.
Breaking the block
If you mine the Visual Workbench while items are inside, every stack in the grid drops on the ground along with the block itself. Nothing is deleted, but you should still clear the grid first if you are near lava or a cliff. This makes the block safe to relocate — just pick up the drops and place it again.
