Steer and Maneuver Your Vessel Effectively
Understand Basic Controls
Board your assembled ship and use WASD to move. Your facing direction determines which way the ship turns. Forward (W) accelerates the vessel in the direction you're looking. Strafe keys (A/D) turn the ship left and right.
Master Speed and Momentum
Vessels have inertia—they don't stop instantly. Build up speed gradually and plan your turns ahead. On water, momentum carries you forward even after you stop pressing keys. In the air, this effect is more pronounced. Release forward input early if you need to slow down.
Navigate Tight Spaces
For narrow channels or docking, move slowly and use small steering adjustments. Large ships need more space to turn. If you're stuck, reverse (S) to back up and reposition. Practice in open water first before attempting complex maneuvers.
Coordinate with Passengers
Other players can board your ship. They'll move with the vessel but won't affect steering. Warn them before sharp turns or sudden stops to prevent them falling off.
Use Landmarks
Plan routes using terrain features. Aim for distant landmarks rather than making constant micro-adjustments. This keeps your piloting smooth and your ship stable.
