How to Redirect Redstone Signals with Comparator Redirectors

The Problem They Solve

Vanilla comparators read a container or block behind them and output a signal forward. Sometimes you want that reading to travel in a different direction, or you want to isolate the comparator from the block it reads. Utilitix adds Comparator Redirector: Up and Comparator Redirector: Down to handle this.

How They Work

Place a Comparator Redirector directly behind a comparator. The redirector takes the signal the comparator would normally read and reroutes it — Up sends the reading to the block above, Down sends it to the block below. This lets you read a container that isn't in the comparator's normal line of sight.

Build Steps

1. Put your container (chest, barrel, hopper, etc.) where you want it.

2. Place the appropriate redirector adjacent to the container so it can sense the fill level.

3. Place a comparator facing away from the redirector.

4. The comparator now outputs a signal based on the container's contents, even though the container isn't directly behind it.

Uses

  • Compact storage-monitoring circuits where space is tight.
  • Reading containers stacked vertically without running long redstone lines.
  • Building hidden indicator lights that respond to chest fill levels.
