How to Light Your Base with Lapis Lamps and Inverted Lamps

The Lapis Lamp, Inverted Lapis Lamp, Inverted Redstone Lamp, and related lamps give you light sources that respond to redstone in different ways, letting you build controllable lighting.

Understanding the Variants

A normal lamp lights up when powered. An inverted lamp does the opposite: it stays lit and turns off when it receives a redstone signal. The Lapis variants use a blue-toned light, while the Redstone variants match the classic redstone lamp look. Pick the variant that matches the behavior you want before wiring.

Wiring Controllable Lights

Run redstone from a lever, button, or pressure plate to the lamp. For an inverted lamp, power it to switch the light off, which is useful for lights that should be on by default and only cut out during a specific event. For normal lamps, power them to turn them on.

Practical Uses

  • Inverted lamps as emergency lighting that turns off when your main power fails.
  • Normal lamps on a daylight-sensor circuit for automatic night lighting.
  • Lapis lamps for blue-accented rooms and underwater builds.
  • Combine with Soliciting Carpets to light protected areas.

Test each lamp with a lever first so you know which state is on before committing to a large wiring run.
