Secure a Chest with Your First Lock
Prepare Your Lock and Key
Before placing a lock on any container, you must pair it with a
Key Blank in a crafting grid. Place your chosen lock tier and a Key Blank together—the crafting interface will combine them, returning both the lock and a freshly cut key that matches it.
Place the Lock
Hold the paired lock in your hand and right-click on the chest, door, furnace, or other container you want to secure. The lock will attach directly to that block's surface. Only players holding the matching key can now open it without triggering the lock-picking minigame.
Create Spare Keys
If you want to give access to other players, craft additional copies of your key. Combine your original key with another Key Blank in a crafting grid to produce a duplicate. Each spare key works identically to the original and takes up only one inventory slot if stored in a
Key Ring.
Test Your Lock
Try opening the secured block without holding the key—you'll be prompted to pick the lock or denied access depending on the lock's enchantments. With the correct key in your inventory, opening is instant.
