Making Your Trimmed Tool Match Your Armor Set

Why Match?

The whole point of Trimmable Tools is visual cohesion. If your armor is trimmed with gold Tide patterns, you probably want your sword and pickaxe to match. This guide walks through getting a consistent look across your whole kit.

Steps

1. Decide on a pattern (for example, Tide, Sentry, or Wild) and a material (gold, diamond, netherite, etc.).

2. Gather enough copies of that template — one per tool you want to trim, plus one for each armor piece if you have not trimmed armor yet.

3. Gather enough of the trim material. Each application consumes some, so stock up.

4. Open the Smithing Table and apply the same template and material to each tool in turn.

5. Check the result in your inventory — the trim color and pattern should now be consistent across armor and tools.

Design Tips

  • Netherite trim material gives a dark, subtle accent that pairs well with netherite gear.
  • Gold and redstone trims pop against iron and diamond tools.
  • Amethyst and emerald trims look best on lighter-colored gear.
  • You can mix patterns on purpose — for example, a Sentry sword and a Tide pickaxe — if you want variety rather than uniformity.

Because trims are cosmetic, you are free to experiment and re-trim whenever you change your mind.
