How to Get Started with Traverse: Finding Fir Trees and Autumnal Forests

Traverse adds new biome variants to your world, so the first thing you want to do is locate the trees it introduces. Fir trees and autumnal forests generate naturally, but they won't appear in every biome you walk through.

Spotting the New Biomes

Fir trees tend to grow in cooler, coniferous-style regions. Look for tall, narrow trees with darker green needles and a distinct trunk texture compared to vanilla spruce. Autumnal forests are easier to spot from a distance because the canopy is a mix of red, orange, yellow, and brown leaves. If you see a forest where the leaves are clearly not oak, birch, or dark oak colors, you've found one.

Gathering Your First Resources

Once you find a fir tree, chop the log with any axe. You'll get Fir Logs, which craft into Fir Planks just like any vanilla wood type. Fir Planks then unlock the full wood family: stairs, slabs, fences, doors, trapdoors, signs, buttons, and pressure plates. From autumnal trees, break the leaves to occasionally get saplings. Each color (red, orange, yellow, brown) has its own sapling, so collect a few of each if you want to farm them.

Bringing Them Home

Plant saplings on dirt or grass and bone-meal them to speed growth. This lets you build a renewable supply of fir wood and decorative autumnal leaves without trekking back to the wild biome every time.
