Understand Tool Classes and Harvest Levels
Tool Classes
Each tool belongs to a specific class that determines what it can harvest:
- Pickaxe: mines stone, ore, and mineral blocks
- Axe: chops wood and wood-based blocks
- Shovel: digs dirt, sand, gravel, and soil blocks
- Paxel: a multi-tool combining pickaxe, axe, and shovel functions
A block will only drop if broken with the correct tool class. Using the wrong tool (e.g., an axe on stone) yields nothing.
Harvest Levels
Harvest levels represent tool tier progression. Higher levels unlock harder materials:
- A tool with harvest level 1 cannot break blocks requiring level 2
- Each tool tier (wood, stone, iron, diamond, etc.) has an assigned harvest level
- The mod displays the harvest level in tool tooltips
This creates a natural progression: you need better tools to access deeper resources. Modpack makers can customize these levels to define their own progression paths.
