Find and Hatch Your First Dragon Egg
Locating Dragon Eggs
Dragon eggs spawn naturally in chests within specific structures. Search thoroughly in:
- Dungeons
- Nether fortresses
- Bastions
- Temples (jungle and desert)
Check multiple chests in each structure, as eggs are rare. Bring a pickaxe and torches to explore safely.
Starting the Hatching Process
Once you have an egg, you need to place it in a nest block. Craft or find a nest, then place your egg inside it. You'll see smoke particles rising from the nest when the hatching process is active—this is a good sign.
Keep the nest loaded and in a safe location. The egg will hatch into a baby dragon over time. Avoid leaving the area for extended periods, as unloaded chunks may pause progress.
Preparing for Your Baby Dragon
Before the egg hatches, gather raw rabbit or raw chicken meat nearby. You'll need this immediately after hatching to tame your new companion. Build an enclosed area with walls and a roof to keep your baby dragon safe—wild hatchlings will flee if exposed to the open sky.
