Set up an early-game melter for smelting

Building your first melter

The melter is a compact smelting solution before you can construct a full smeltery. It requires seared bricks arranged in a small multiblock structure—check the melter block's tooltip or JEI for the exact configuration.

Powering your melter

You have two fuel options:

Using a seared tank: Place a seared tank on top of or adjacent to your melter and fill it with lava using a faucet. The melter will draw heat from the liquid.

Using a heater: Build a heater block (a furnace-like structure made from seared bricks) and place it next to your melter. Feed it solid fuels like coal, charcoal, or wood. The heater produces 200°C of heat—lower than lava but sufficient for early-game ores.

Smelting ore

Place raw ore into the melter's input slot. It will smelt into molten metal, which you can cast into ingots using a casting table and casting basin. Note that the melter provides no ore doubling, so you won't get extra yields like a full smeltery would.

The melter holds only one liquid type at a time, so plan your smelting order accordingly.
