Using Thread Tweak to Fix Lag Spikes from Chunk Loading
Chunk loading is one of the biggest sources of lag spikes in modded Minecraft. When you move quickly, the game generates and meshes chunks on worker threads, and those threads can starve the main thread of CPU time. Thread Tweak lets you rebalance this in real time.
Identifying the Bottleneck
Press F3 and watch the frame time graph while flying or sprinting through terrain. If spikes align with new chunks appearing, the chunk-building worker pool is competing with the main thread. Note whether the spikes are brief (a few frames) or long (half a second or more). Brief spikes usually mean priority contention; long spikes may mean the worker pool is undersized, which Thread Tweak cannot fix.
Rebalancing Priorities
Open the Thread Tweak screen and find the chunk-related worker pool. Lower its priority by one or two steps relative to the main thread. This tells the operating system to give the main thread CPU time first, so frames render smoothly while chunks build slightly slower in the background. You can also raise the main thread priority if it is below normal.
Verifying the Fix
Fly through the same terrain again and compare the frame time graph. You should see shorter, less frequent spikes. If chunks now pop in visibly, you lowered the worker priority too far — raise it back one step. The goal is smooth frames with acceptable chunk load speed, not maximum priority for everything.
