How to Reduce Stuttering in Modded Minecraft with Thread Tweak

Stuttering in a heavily modded pack usually comes from the game's main thread getting overloaded while background tasks (chunk loading, lighting, entity ticking) compete for CPU time. Thread Tweak lets you shift how those tasks are prioritized so the render and tick loops stop waiting on background work.

Adjusting Thread Priorities

Open the Thread Tweak configuration screen from the mod list or its in-game keybind. You will see a list of Minecraft's internal thread pools. The main/render thread should generally stay at a high priority so frame delivery is not delayed. Background worker threads (used for chunk meshing and similar tasks) can be lowered slightly so they yield to the main thread when both want CPU time.

Testing Your Changes

Do not change every slider at once. Lower the priority of one worker pool, then play for a few minutes in an area that normally stutters — flying through new chunks or entering a busy village. If stutter decreases without tanking chunk load speed, keep it. If chunks pop in slowly, raise the priority back. Real-time adjustment means you can tune while the game is running, so iterate in small steps rather than restarting.

What Not to Do

Setting every thread to maximum priority defeats the purpose — they will fight each other and the OS scheduler. Leave at least one pool at normal priority as a baseline.
