How to Enable Third-Person Aiming with TAC Guns and Shoulder Surfing

Getting the Camera to Zoom When You Aim

To make aiming down sights actually zoom the camera in third-person, you need both the TAC gun mod and Shoulder Surfing installed alongside this compatibility mod. Once all three are present, the mod registers your guns as "adaptive items" while aiming. This is the key behavior that lets the camera pull in smoothly instead of staying locked at the default shoulder distance.

1. Equip a TAC gun and enter third-person view (default F5).

2. Switch to Shoulder Surfing's shoulder camera if it isn't already active.

3. Hold your aim key (right-click by default) to aim down sights.

4. Watch the camera zoom in as you aim — this confirms the adaptive item registration is working.

If Aiming Doesn't Zoom

If the camera stays static while aiming, the gun isn't being treated as an adaptive item. Check that Shoulder Surfing is loaded and that no other camera mod is overriding it. Also confirm you're actually in shoulder view rather than vanilla third-person, since the zoom behavior is tied to Shoulder Surfing's camera system. Once working, releasing the aim key returns the camera to its normal shoulder distance.
