How to Make Chat Bubbles Appear Above Your Head in TalkBubbles

Understanding When Bubbles Show Up

TalkBubbles only draws a bubble above a player when two conditions are met: the player sends a chat message, and another player is close enough to be considered "nearby." If you type in chat and see nothing above your head, the most common cause is that no other player is within the mod's detection radius. Move closer to a friend, then send a test message. Bubbles are tied to proximity, not to the whole server, so a message sent while you are alone will not produce a visible bubble for anyone.

Testing It Yourself

1. Have a second player stand a few blocks away from you.

2. Type a normal chat message and press enter.

3. Watch above both heads — the bubble should appear over the sender and remain visible for a short time before fading.

4. Walk far away from your friend and repeat. The bubble should no longer render, confirming the proximity rule.

Things That Block Bubbles

Bubbles render in world space above the player model, so they can be hidden if your camera is inside a block, if you are underwater looking up at an opaque surface, or if another entity is directly overhead. Step into open air and look up slightly to confirm the bubble is actually there. If bubbles still never appear even when players are adjacent, check that the mod is loaded on both the client and the server side of your setup, since chat events need to reach the client that renders the bubble.
