How to Fix TalkBubbles Not Working on a Multiplayer Server

Check Both Sides First

The single most common reason bubbles fail on a server is that the mod is installed on the client but not on the server, or vice versa. TalkBubbles needs the chat event to be visible to the client that draws the bubble. Confirm the mod is present in the server's mods folder and in every player's client mods folder. If your server is vanilla or a plugin-only server, the mod cannot function there at all.

Proximity and Dimension Checks

1. Stand right next to another player in the same dimension.

2. Send a plain chat message (not a command — commands usually do not trigger bubbles).

3. If nothing appears, walk even closer; the detection radius may be smaller than you expect.

4. Test in the Overworld, then in the Nether or End — some setups behave differently across dimensions.

Other Common Causes

If proximity and installation are fine, check for mod conflicts: chat-modifying mods, minimap chat overlays, or HUD mods can intercept or hide the bubble layer. Try disabling other chat/HUD mods temporarily to isolate the issue. Also verify that the player sending the message is not muted or using a chat channel that bypasses normal chat events. Finally, confirm everyone is running compatible mod versions — a client on a newer build than the server can silently fail to render bubbles even though chat itself still works.
