Understand NPC Combat Behavior and Tactics
Combat Range and Weapon Selection
NPCs automatically adapt their tactics based on distance to enemies. They engage in long-range, mid-range, and close-range combat, selecting appropriate weapons and positioning accordingly. An NPC with a rifle will maintain distance; one with a shotgun will close in aggressively.
Cover and Flanking Systems
Recruited soldiers use environmental cover intelligently, taking positions behind blocks and terrain features. They also attempt flanking maneuvers to outposition enemies, creating dynamic firefights rather than static exchanges.
Squad Coordination
When multiple NPCs work together, they coordinate their actions. Formations help organize this behavior—soldiers maintain relative positions and support each other. Leader positioning influences squad tactics; moving forward encourages aggressive engagement, while holding position triggers defensive behavior.
Optimizing Squad Effectiveness
Issue Hold Position orders to lock soldiers in defensive locations with good cover. Use Follow to keep your squad mobile. Switch to Attack orders when engaging enemies. Experiment with formations to find what works best for your terrain and enemy composition.
