How to Read the Timer on Your Status Effect Icons
What the Numbers Mean
Once the mod is installed, every status effect icon in your HUD gets a small time readout drawn on top of it. The format changes depending on how long is left:
- Short effects show plain seconds (for example, a few seconds ticking down).
- Effects lasting over a minute switch to a minutes-and-seconds style using an
mmarker. - Effects lasting over an hour use an
hmarker for hours.
The number counts down in real time, so you can watch it shrink as the effect runs out. You do not need to open your inventory or pause the game to check.
Reading Effect Levels and Infinite Effects
Alongside the timer, the icon also shows the effect's level as a Roman numeral, so a boosted speed effect reads as its tier right on the icon rather than only in the tooltip. This is handy when you have stacked potions and want to confirm which tier is active.
If an effect has no expiry (for example, an effect granted by a beacon or a command that never runs out), newer versions mark it with an ∞ symbol instead of a countdown. If you see that symbol, the effect will not tick away on its own — you would need to remove it another way.
If a number looks frozen, check whether the effect is actually infinite; a static readout usually means there is nothing left to count down.
