Making StartInv Work on a Multiplayer Server

StartInv is designed to protect players during the loading screen, and that matters most on servers where you join into a dangerous spot. Getting it working in multiplayer requires the mod to be present on the right side.

Server-Side vs Client-Side

The protection is applied when a player enters the world, which is a server-side event. Install StartInv on the server so the invincibility is granted authoritatively. If your server already runs it, clients generally do not need it, though keeping it on both sides avoids mismatches.

Verifying It Works

1. Join the server and note whether you take damage immediately on spawn.

2. If you still die during loading, check that the server actually loaded the mod — look at the startup log for the mod's name.

3. Confirm the configured duration on the server matches what you expect.

Common Pitfalls

  • A plugin-based server (for example, one using a proxy) may load worlds before the mod's hook runs. Test on the actual world players join.
  • If another mod cancels damage events globally, it can override StartInv. Temporarily remove suspects to isolate the conflict.
  • Operators with creative mode will not notice the effect, since they are already immune.
