How to Edit the Starter Kit Config File Directly

Locating and Editing the File

If you prefer precise control or want to add items with NBT data (custom names, enchantments, potion effects), edit the config file by hand instead of using the command.

1. Navigate to /config/starterkit/starterkit.txt in your instance or server directory.

2. Open it in a plain text editor.

3. Each entry defines an item and the slot it goes into. Slot targeting lets you place items in the main inventory, the offhand, or armor slots.

4. Save the file and restart the world or server so the change takes effect.

When to Prefer Manual Editing

The /starterkit set command is convenient but only captures what fits in your inventory. Manual editing lets you assign items to slots you cannot easily reach, and it supports full NBT tags for things like named gear or enchanted tools. If you are unsure of the exact syntax for a slot or tag, copy the format from an entry the command already generated, then modify the item ID and tags. Always keep a backup of the file before large edits so you can revert if a malformed entry prevents the kit from loading.
