Understand Wind and Fire Spread Direction

Check Wind Conditions

Wind is the primary factor controlling wildfire behavior. Use the command /wildfire wind to see the current wind direction and strength in your world.

Wind varies by dimension—the Nether, Overworld, and End may have different wind patterns. Check wind regularly, especially before building in exposed areas or near forests.

Plan Your Defense Around Wind

Fires spread faster in the direction the wind is blowing. If wind is blowing north, flames will advance northward more aggressively than in other directions.

  • Downwind side: This is your priority defense zone. Build water barriers and cleared zones on the downwind side of your base.
  • Upwind advantage: Areas upwind are safer, but embers can still travel across firebreaks and water, so don't rely solely on wind direction.
  • Changing conditions: Wind strength and direction change over time. Recheck periodically, especially during large fires.

Use /wildfire stats to monitor active fires and their proximity to your builds. Plan your base layout with wind patterns in mind—position valuable structures away from likely fire paths.
