Deal with Smoke Damage and Toxic Effects
Understand Smoke Levels
Smoke intensity ranges from Level 0–1 (thin, light smoke) to Level 4 (massive, dark columns up to 60 blocks high). Standing in thick smoke causes nausea, poison, blindness, and asphyxiation damage over time.
Protect Yourself
- Wear a helmet: Any helmet provides partial defense against toxic smoke inhalation. This is your primary protection.
- Avoid thick smoke: Stay clear of Level 3–4 smoke columns. If you must enter, wear a helmet and move quickly.
- Use potions: Carry antidotes like poison resistance potions if available in your modpack.
- Extinguish fires early: Smaller fires produce less smoke. Prevent fires from growing to Level 3–4 by responding quickly.
Escape Smoke Zones
If caught in toxic smoke:
- Move upwind or to the side, away from the smoke column.
- Descend below the smoke layer if possible.
- Use
/wildfire smoketo see where smoke is spawning, then avoid those coordinates.
Smoke rises high into the sky, so flying above it (if you have elytra or creative flight) is an effective escape route.
