Mastering Horse Gaits and Movement

Understanding the Gait System

Star Worm horses feature separate, realistic gaits—walk, trot, canter, and gallop. Each gait serves different purposes: walking for exploration and control, trotting for steady travel, cantering for speed with stability, and galloping for maximum velocity.

Switching Between Gaits

Use designated keybinds (typically number keys or configurable controls) to cycle through available gaits while mounted. Your horse must be sufficiently bonded to access all gaits smoothly. Lower bonding may restrict faster gaits until trust improves.

Optimizing Performance

Different terrain and situations call for different gaits. Use walk in tight spaces or when precision is needed. Trot works well for general travel. Canter provides a good balance of speed and control for jumping or navigating obstacles. Reserve gallop for open terrain where you need maximum speed.

Your horse's stamina affects gait performance—let your horse rest periodically, especially after extended galloping. Proper nutrition and hydration support better endurance across all gaits.
