Managing Large Potion Stacks in Chests and Shulker Boxes
Stack Size and Storage Layout
Because potions now stack in larger groups, a single chest slot holds far more than before. This changes how you should organise storage — you no longer need a wall of chests just for brewing output.
Organising Your Brewing Room
1. Dedicate one chest to drinkable potions, one to splash, and one to lingering, so forms never get mixed.
2. Within each chest, group by effect family (healing, harming, swiftness, fire resistance, and so on).
3. Keep a labelled shulker box for each family if you brew in bulk; a single box can now hold a large reserve.
4. When restocking your hotbar, shift-click from the chest — the game will top up your existing stack rather than creating a new slot.
Avoiding Common Messes
- Never store partially used stacks next to full ones without checking tooltips; a lower duration will block merging.
- If a chest looks full but holds few potion types, you probably have many small mismatched stacks — sort them by effect and duration.
- Use hoppers and droppers carefully: they move items by stack, so a large potion stack can clog a sorting system if the filter expects single bottles.
- Before long expeditions, pull one merged stack per effect from your shulker boxes rather than carrying many loose bottles.
